Screening to Prevent Cervical Cancer

  • Screening via liquid-based Pap and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) tests
  • HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer
  • High-risk types 16 and 18 responsible for 70% of diagnosed cervical cancers
  • HPV tests identifies patients at a greater risk for cervical cancer
  • Together, Pap and HPV tests can be life saving

When Screening Identifies Abnormalities, a High Risk Pap Profile Provides Insight

A High Risk Pap Profile is recommended after an abnormal Pap result: ASCUS, LSIL, or HSIL if high risk behaviors suggest necessity or after a positive result to the High Risk Subtypes HPV 16 & 18/45 test.

The various techniques performed in a High Risk Pap Profile allow for: visualization of HPV within the cell, uncovering of aneuploidy that may be indicative of high risk HPV, notation of changes in immunoreactivity levels that signify cancer, identifying the overexpression of genes due to cervical cancer and detection of chromosomes added due to cancer.

Tests in the High Risk Pap Profile

  • HPV
  • Ki-67
  • p16
  • ProExC
  • Feulgen Stain
